Introduction:

This unit covers the knowledge and application skills to provide basic counselling to senior clients in an engaging and supportive manner. Skills include to apply active listening skills and questioning techniques when communicating with clients; recognise barriers of communication; maintain client confidentiality and privacy; and provide engagement and support to clients throughout the counselling process.

Course Content:

• • Identify the roles & responsibilities of a para-counsellor
  • Recognise common ethical issues in counselling practice
  • Identify possible barriers of communication when interacting with senior clients
  • Use effective communication techniques when interacting with senior clients
  • Provide basic counselling in an engaging and supportive manner

Course Duration: Total Training hours: 16 hours

• Training: 15.25 hours
• Assessment: 45 minutes

Time: 9am to 6pm

The course is delivered by a well-qualified trainer in a classroom environment

Minimum Entry Requirement:

• Those who are 21 years old and above, and are currently working in healthcare related industry for 0-3 years.
• Minimum GCE ‘N’ Level and/or able to read, write, listen and speak of English to a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3; and count to a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3
• Able to operate a personal desktop computer / laptop with Level 2 basic computing and applications skills
• Be motivated to learn
